Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

Our vision:

Protect the Osa Peninsula, a globally ranked biodiversity 'hot spot'.

Our three main premises:

1. Science and education are necessary as continuing activities for acquiring, interpreting and communicating information about the biological systems of the Osa. Such information is necessary for attracting global interest and external funding, as well as guiding local management and sustainable uses of natural resources.

2. Because its history and location, Sirena biological Station in Corcovado National Park is a keystone for science, education and ecotourism in the region.

3. Sirena station has the potential to financially assist the broader mission of ACOSA (the conservation area that overlooks Corcovado National Park) through concession fees as well as greatly expand the international attention given to the Osa region

a. directly through tourism (including scientific visitors and media crews)
b. indirectly by attracting grants and endowments to support conservation in the region.
